Coded my own version of this

I've been really fascinated with this WiiVR stuff, I think that many of you guys are underestimating it's potential. Anyway, I've got a lot of ideas and plus I couldn't for the life of me get Johnny's code to work on my win2k so I coded my own version that essentially does the same thing Johnny's does, it's still got some kinks in it(stuff like assuming initial position of wiimote), but I'm hoping to soon get my hands on a camera so I can record and share a video of it working with you guys and others.
What's more is since I coded it all myself I am much more easily able to modify it, and so I've got a bunch of ideas I'm going to try out such as having this interact in a believable way with actual photographs. (I've got an idea for how that could work).
Anyway, just thought I'd give you guys a heads up and see if any of you had questions or comments.

Congrats on coding your own!
The one thing that I'm missing in johny's stuff is the ability to change the one taget picture to many different ones at the same time on screen. I'm able to change the picture of a target to whatever, but can only use it multiple times. Are you able to have code to have different target pics at once? If so, could they be animated or better still, actual 3D models? I know I'm asking alot but would be awsome!!!
Cool and thank you.

The answers to your questions are overall maybe. The thing that Johnny has done and I have not done yet is have input files and whatnot which makes my program easy for other people to use. I've made mine based on my resolution and my wii camera angle. That said changing the code to display different images instead of the same image should be quite easy. As far as animated gifs, I'm not sure, it would be possible to have it cycle through images but that would be slightly more difficult, I don't think the program just right away will recognize to cycle through the images of an animated gif.
So basically if I do get around to making my code more friendly for the masses I should be able to make it so many different images are displayed, and perhaps so it cycles through images like an animated gif, however 3d objects will likely not be something I will be able to do in the near future. That said I have a very interesting idea relating to 3d images that I will test soon, and hope to share it, if my theorys on the matter do appear to check out.

Joe, what was the problem with Win2k? I tested Johnny's program in Win2k and it worked perfectly! I just used his executable; I did not try to recompile. The bluetooth driver I used was a bit buggy, but Johnny's software had no issues.

Well, I've been very busy with college and so I haven't had a chance to work on this since I last posted. In any case, I have ideas that I simply can't test with Johnny's code, so it's good I'm writing my own, but still I'm going to try it out again to see if I can get it to work. Either way hopefully in a few weeks I will have a working and impressive program of my own to share with you guys and hopefully it will have a few tricks of it's own.

Hello (From Fremantle Western Australia)
Could you write a list of the features your code will have? AND does it have the ability to have different pics (the targets) on the screen at THE SAME TIME?? (Different people for example, some at the front, some behind etc.. maybe animated )
I know i'm asking alot but I sooooo want this.
Keep up the GREAT work.
You have a fan.

Hi, really impressive that you coded your own, I'm in the process my self, I really need help with POSIT code implementation, would it be possible for you to go through your code, I'll understand if you don't want to.
If you prefer to speak privately then you can email me.
Thank you,
Anhar

I keep encountering problems I'm not expecting. Hopefully I will have a video or something to share very soon though.

Argh, it's the math that's slowing me down. I'm perfectly fine at coding. But the Wiimote output is two floats corresponding to (X and Y) and it's not clear if they correspond to the angle of viewing or distance which makes a difference.
Also either way it's not clear what the limitations of the Wiimotes view is. Obviously it can't see directly perpendicular to the camera so I wonder what the cut off is.
Anyway, I'm going to keep working at it. It's close but it doesn't quite follow my head perfectly. And once I get it working completely, I'm going to try to add my own twist to it and I'll share that with you guys.
I really regret that it's taken this long.
Geoff

Hello everybody. wow this is amazing - I just downloaded the VR screen from johnnys website, truley awsome! I was wondering tho - how difficult would it be to replace the Stadium image with a Video, such as a .mov file?
