Title: Wiimote FishtankVR has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry f
Post by: foxgoku on January 30, 2008, 12:04:34 AM
First off, Hi all
Okay my question is, I get this error through windows, "Wiimote FishtankVR has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have no problems running the whiteboard program and haven't built a led array for the finger tracking, but am wondering if I may have overlooked something obvious. I have no problems connecting with the bluetooth or programs like wiinmote. Sorry guys if this is should be a faq question but I haven't found it. I will also provide the error contents if asked and I'm running xp sp2 with .net framework 3.0

Hello,

I don't know much about this error, as I have yet to buy the hardware and get my own setup running.

However, I noticed on Johnny's blog site, he makes a comment about this error:

Quote
"Unable to launch the DesktopVR program"

blarg.... a number of people have been reporting a "Wiimote FishtankVR has encountered a problem" error. but whom are able to run my other programs. Unfortunately, I can't replicate the error on any of my computers and I'm leaving for the holidays. So, fixes may be slow for the next 2 weeks. If you can shed some light on this, please add a comment to this post and I'll upload a fixed version once this problem is hashed out.

Deleting the "config.dat" file and re-running the program may help.
Installing the most recent version of DirectX may help.

(update 12/30/07) I also got some suggestions that this might be due to a "x86/x64 linkage problem" related to 64-bit version of Windows. The program needs to be recompiled for this. I'll try to post a new version sometime in the next few weeks.

I'm getting the same problem and i'm deffinately on 32-bit windows (XP, SP-2).

i'm using .Net 2.0 and DX 9.0c

do I need to update either of these?

I can connect to the wiimote ok, just cant run desktopVR.

Try installing the DirectX Software Development Kit (SDK) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4B78A58A-E672-4B83-A28E-72B5E93BD60A&displaylang=en). It's different from the normal DirectX which ships with Windows.

Fixed the problem for me.

OK guys, I have searched high and low to find a solution to this error, but I cannot. I installed the SDK and am still getting the error. Any other ideas?

You should try linking your computer to a TV. It worked when I connected it.

The sourcecode for WiiDesktopVr is looking for 2 images

target.png
stad_2.png

located in the root folder of the source...

here is a link to the source from the forum

http://www.wiimoteproject.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile;id=2

(they are provided in this .zip)

Thanks for trying to help me out. Those images are in the root folder. I am trying to figure out if this is just a problem with my system and the software or is it related to the bluetooth or something? I have to think that the problem is before it is even trying to connect to the wiimote.

Thanks again for helping me.

OK - that causes the crashes for some when they DL code without the images so you have to code the failover yourself or just make sure the images are present

Hey there, i guess i should have read this forum before posting a new thread. For those of you running vista, you may want to check out the thread. It is titled vista 32bit DestopVR crashing solution.

http://www.wiimoteproject.com/support/vista-32bit-desktopvr-crashing-solution/.

Anyhow, to make it short, try disabling the service called "Desktop Window Manager Session" in the windows services. It kills the desktop effects in vista called DWM composition and it was conflicting with the app in my case. After that it worked great.

Hope this helps.

I came to this post trying to get my setup working too.  In the end I fixed my problem by recompiling the program with some fixes from the Wiimote community.  Check the resulting forum thread here:

My buit-in dell bluetooth has the wiimote connected and it works with SmoothBoard
BUT I still get the 'Wiimote FishtankVR has stopped working' message come up as soon as I try to open wiidesktopvr!

Im using windows 7 and a 64bit operating system.
