Heya, i saw your video, but i have a question: what is the grid with a hole that you put just in front of Wiimote? where can i find that? I'm spanish i dont understand such that part of the video :S
btw, i have to congratulate you, Johnny, you're a genius!

it is an array of IR (infrared) LED's he made it to help reflect light back to the wiimote.
Details, details. Things to do. Things to get done. Don't bother me with details, just tell me when they're done.

but it's not connected to the Wiimote, isn't it? i dont understand clearly how the grid helps the capture of IR :/

the grid requires some power source. it is used because he puts reflective tape on his fingers and that grid of IR LED's reflects back a signal to the wiimote.
The other applications uses a home made light pen that has an infrared LED and that is what the wiimote sees. this app uses your fingers so you need to put something to reflect light but you still need a light source. the grid was made to be your light source. you have to have some infrared source for the wiimote's infrared camera to detect.

mmm, i see, and how can i do that grid with unique power source to all the LED's?

Hi, i'm new to the forum (but not new to wiimote hacking), and i'm currently in the process of building an infrared LED panel, like the one in the finger-tracking video. Although i have no electronics expertise, i've bought the following items:
ten infrared LEDs (100mA)
ceramic punched-hole panel
various resistors
5v battery
and I'm researching/experimenting with the various resistors; i tried it with a 3k ohm resistor, but the leds weren't very bright; i tried it without a resistor and blew the leds! Anyhoo, i'll post more when i've had success..........

that should help you. you need LED's a board to hold them, a power source and resistors.
a soldering iron would probably help and then you can get as fancy as you would like

looks like a truly hacker task, but i don't have any knowledge about electronics or such thing, maybe the components are in a hardware store, right?

yeah, the LED panel can be bought in a hardware store, only i have to know how to plug the power source the panel and i guess it's ok. So, the Wiimote it's not conected to the LED panel, right?

btw, what it's the material that Johnny put on his fingers to reflect the IR?

the material he used was a reflective sheet that you can find at a hardware store or, as he found his, ebay. But what you want to do is get some IR leds, they shouldn't be emmiting any light as our human eyes can't see that, what is the forward voltage on you leds? you can go to this site too test out what what kinda of resitors you need
http://ledcalc.com/
typer in how many volts your using, then you forward voltage, then how many ma you can use. I hope this helps

Hi guys
does ambient light affect the IR sensitivity range of the wiimote? I built myself an IR array (with 12 100mA leds), and the range is pretty poor; less than 0.75m; btw, not testing it with reflective tape yet; using a CD or aluminium tape on fingers
wiimote IR -> glovepie -> msp
cheers

get anything you can find that is very reflective, if you could, try to get pieces of mirror to put on your fingres, i'm not saying go take some off your mirror in your bathroom, just try to find the most reflective thing you can find see if that makes it better, if not, add more led's to your array.

I guess the best chance to get a reflective image is envolving your fingers with some kitchen silver paper. I repeat "I guess", I don't have yet the Wiimote, but soon, soon
