Hello everyone.

For my project at school I want to put the wiimote white board in my school. We are a high end high school and have a lot of computers and projectors.

I was wondering if this idea was possible before I go off trying to complete it for a grade.

If I put a LED Infrared light on my finger, say the for of a ring, and then used the wiimote like the wiimote finger tracking system said, could I use the LED ring as a LED pen? So could I click on documents, write, and drag them?

Also I was wondering if there are any major limitations or problems that I might encounter when doing this project.

Hi Timroemer,

Are you planning to do a finger tracking system (away from the screen), or a whiteboard system (touching the screen).

If you are setting up a whiteboard system, here are some potential difficulties/questions
  • What will be your plans for the switching of the switch
  • How comfortable is it to the user if worn as a ring

It will be similar to just an IR pen, but in a different form factor.

If you are away from the screen (finger tracking system),
  • When you will consider a click and not a click?
  • How do you determine the screen coordinates to track?
  • The user might not be able to determine where he is clicking at
  • Wiimote field of view might be an issue. The user will have to be within the small angle of view of the wiimote
