Title: imprecise ir pen position
Post by: lukasrum on May 10, 2011, 01:33:25 PM
It's like this: I've been using smoothboard fot the past 2 years, everything was fine until today. The problem is that I somehow cannot get the mouse cursor in the right position in certain places on the projected screen. The wiimote was placed in the same place as usual, the difference might be that, for the first time, I mounted the projector on the ceiling - that's all. Now in the centre of the screen the mouse cursor is misplaced by about 2 inches. How to get this right, help appreciated.

Hi,

If the setup is the same, it should be working like normal.

During the calibration, are you able to click on the four calibration points properly?

Usually, the accuracy of the positioning of the mouse cursor depends on the calibration made. Also, after calibration the setup should be fixed in place. If the Wiimote is not placed securely, vibrations may cause the Wiimote to move slightly which may cause in displacement of the mouse cursor.

The thing is the setup is the same! The wiimote is placed securely in a wiimote stand as usual so the are no vibrations and there never were. Yes, I am able to click 4 points... don't make me laugh:)
Could this be due to the ceiling mounting of the projector? Before the problems started I had the projector placed on a table.

The offset of the mouse cursor appears immediately after calibration?

The projector may be moving instead. A very slight change in the position may affect the cursor position.

What do you mean by "offset of the mouse cursor?" If you mean the popping up of the cursor after calibration so yes, it appears immediately. Also, please stop suggesting that something is moving! It isn't! I know that "a very slight change in the position may affect...", and I wouldn't bother to share with you my problem if I didn't check before such basic things. The thing is that the cursor is a bit away from the IR pen and I do not know why. As I said before, everything was ok until the projector was mounted in the ceiling. What is strange is that only in the centre of the screen the cursor is misplaced.

If only the center is displaced, most probably because the projected screen is not an evenly shaped trapezoid.

This can be due to distortion by the projector  or the shape of the screen itself. Are you using any keystone correction for the projector? Maybe you need to reduce the keystone adjustments made.
