Hi,

I am having issues with Smoothboard calibration on my  macbook pro.

My setup is as follows:

OS: Mac OS Lion 10.7.4
Bluetooth: Inbuilt bluetooth device
Smoothboard for Mac version: 1.0 1009
Wii Remote: Wii Remote Plus
IR-Pen: self made using parts and instructions laid out on http://kenmooredesign.blogspot.com/2008/11/how-to-make-infrared-led-light-pen-for.html
IR LED: RadioShack High density LED Forward voltage (V): 1.28V, rated at 100mA (using an N battery to power it)
Wii Remote Placement : 2X height of presentation medium on a tripod
Presentation medium: macbook screen, flat panel LCD TV

Please note that I tested the IR pen by viewing it through the camera on my macbook. The light is bright. I have attached a picture of what that light looks like.

Smoothboard detects the Wii remote and launches the smoothboard panel (image attached).

It appears that the IR pen is registering on the Wii remote. If I wave it in front of the wii remote or point it near the presentation screen the I see another dot in the IR monitor move.

Calibration is initiated by pressing the 'A' button on the Wii remote. Based on the user guide I should see four calibration dots in the  order
1. top left corner 2. top right corner 3.bottom right corner and 4. the bottom left corner
The first dot I see is on the top right corner (image attached). So this is where things are not jiving with the user guide and where I am stuck. I try to tap it with the IR pen but nothing happens.

If I press down on the 'A' button I see both top left and top right dots flicker.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

What IR LED are you using? The Wii Remote is sensitive to only the 940nm wavelength.
IR LED's with other wavelengths may not be detected well. For these, the Wii Remote may detect the IR LED if it is pointed directly at the Wii Remote but not when the IR Pen is pointed at the screen.

Can you confirm whether you can actually see the IR dots on the IR monitor when you are using the IR pen at the screen?

You may email us directly at [email protected]

Thank you.
