Iv'e searched Google, on this forum and everywhere else trying to find out if Wiimote Whiteboard is compatable with Vista but no luck =(

Basicaly, Im running a laptop with Vista Home Premium (32 Bit).
I connect the wiimote with BlueSoleil (5.2.227.1 because I heard that higher versions have compatablility issues) and run the Wiimote Whiteboard software and it bluescreens =/
Ive tried version 0.1 and 0.2 of johnny lee's software, the smoothing wiimote whiteboard software and a cross-platform java one and they all bluescreen. If the wiimote isn't connected then they just wont start.
I also tried all of the same software in compatability mode for Windows XP (SP2) and with administrator rights and they still bluescreen.

Iv'e looked on this forum and it seems a few other people have had problems with Vista, but no one ever said if it was possible to run it in the first place or if they fixed it =P

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want this to work =D

There are some issues with the initial sourcecode and there are several modifications available that can handle that kind of problems

try the Smoothboard by BoonJin

EDIT: some spelling

Thanks for the reply =)

I've tried Smoothboard too, without my Wiimote connected it loads up fine and I can use the settings n stuff, but if I connect the wiimote and try it, it bluescreens like all the others apps =(

After my first post here, I connected the remote to my laptop and ran glovePIE and some codes work such as LED and vibrate functions, but If I try a script that uses the IR, it bluescreens too =S

So it looks like any time my laptop tries to access the remotes IR stuff, it bluescreens. Any reson for this and can I stop it? =/

HellsPlumber (Good Employer?)

Can you put up as an issue in this topic http://www.wiimoteproject.com/wiimote-whiteboard/wiimote-smooth-board-0-1-beta/

Boonjin has fixed a number of issues and if its a code issue we would like to fix.

HHave you tried with Widcomm/Microsoft Stack to confirm not a BT issue? If it works on a different stack then post to topic http://www.wiimoteproject.com/general-discussion/collect-suggestions-about-bluesoleil/msg4927/ as IVT (BlueSoleil) are working with us to fix BlueSoleils issues.

Lol, very good employer =P

Well because it bluescreens with all applications ive used and always  when the ir is used, im guessing its either Vista or the bluetooths goin terribly wrong somewhere =/

Im not sure what stacks are but I used BlueSoleil with my BT USB dongle (Motorola PC850) and it connects and glovePIE can send led commands etc to it. The wiki page says the dongle works too, but I read about the Widcomm thing so I downloaded it and it wont run =[
I downloaded the btwinitialupdate.exe file and it says "failed" every time.
Ive tried all compatibility settings to no sucess, if anyone has the direct file I need feel free to post it =P

Follow this: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/wladykad/

It will alllow you to load the Widcomm stack on your device.

You have what has been named "The Blue Screen of Death", it apears to be an increasingly common problem. I would be keen to finally resolve it. Can you please let me know the results.

If the Widcomm works, then we need to let BlueSoleil know so they can fix along with the other issues they are fixing. If it doesn't work we need to let Boonjin know their is a code problem in Vista so we can perminantly fix.

Did the whole tutorial from the link you gave me and everything works perfectly now =)
Just made a ir pen too, it's hard to belive that theres software that can work so well, i've spent a total of 0 makin my laptop into a tablet =D

So I guess we have to tell BlueSoleil now, how we go about telling them? =)

And thanks alot for the help, saved me buying a Wacom Cintiq =P
And if anyone needs a tutorial on how to get everything working on vista, I might make a quick one in Flash because I know not everyone would know how to use command line =P

Nice to see that it worked out for you HellsPlumber!

With the added support by BlueSoleil I really hope there is some sort of fix that can be applied.

Thanks, and yeh it will be good =)
If they dont, I guess someone could just make a installer for the Widcomm stack patch =D
Would be quicker than cmd =P

Awesome!

I will pass to BlueSoleil. I'm glad you have identified the cause of the "Blue Screen of Death". It also meens that Boonjin's Smoth Board is compatible with Vista. ;D

Good to know =)
And Boonkins Smooth Board is what im using atm =D
Next Im going to try to make a USB irPen =P
The one I made has a battery pack but its obviously not ideal but its worn on the wrist so its not too bad, but a USB powered one would be much better, no battery limits =)

Would upload a pic but I dont have one atm =P

For informations:

i had the same problem with my vista laptop, and i began to follow this tutorial, but, just afer uninstalling bluesoleil, i've tried with the bluetooth program of windows vista, and....it works perfectly !!!!!!

So....with vista, you don't have to install any programs to connect your bluetooth hardware !

(sorry for the language, but i'm french...)

Thanks !

I think some bluetooth drivers work although some dont, Vista just downloads and installs the right one for your bluetooth device. The one I had just diddent work with its own driver so I had to use this method =)
