Hi All,
I like the wiimote interactive whiteboard very much and we use it at our sdhcool. And more schools in our district will use it soon.

Still I'm not happy with Nintendos Wii. Reasons:
- Only one vendor, so I'm vendor-locked-in.
- For a digital whiteboard, the Wii has a lot of garbage. You only need the camera and a chip. Where can we buy it?
- As an educational institution (our business is sharing knowledge) we have a strong preference for open-hardware.

All this makes us look for alternatives. One promising alternative is Eduard Metger's webcam whiteboard:
It is not yet so fast as the Wii, but he is trying to improve his WW.

Taking out the IR filter of a webcam is a piece of cake and replaing it with a piece of filter material also (Cokin A700 89 B filter).

IMHO thiis project has the potential to take over the Wii in the classroom.
Kind regards,
Dirk Schouten

You can buy the pixart camera from mouser. (not sure of part number).

I like the Nitendo Wii element it gives it uniqueness. Given the cost (very cheap) could you match the price with components and labour??
