Since the pen is a pen, and there is not a keyboard on it, I have some ideas. We want this to be a usable, but cheap/easy project for people. So the suggestions below I had:

#1) Wii Gestures
Mouse gestures, with a Wii name (haha). But, this will bring up common things such as a browser.

#2) Text Fields
I would like to see something where you click on a text field, and someone writes using there handwriting, then it reads off each letter and prints it along the bottom as they write. So someone spells "Hello", in the middle or anywhere of the screen, they draw "H". The computer checks, finds its H, moves it to the bottom left and the H drawn fades. I'll make a little demo of what I mean.

#3) Colors
I have no idea how you could do this, but if you start making the IR Pens, somehow different colors would be really cool. I would pay $50 myself for a set of 8-12 "colored" pens.

Those are my ideas. I think they would all improve the use alot. I am a programmer, it just I do java, and some of these things I do not see being done easily. I would expecially like the Text Fields, and will start on that image right now.

Heres the picture. The field is being edited, and the last few letters are shown to the left faded. The M is made, then it would fade/slide to the side in about 1/4 to 1/2 of a second (Usability in mind). The whole thing is spelt out below the writing also.

The coloured pens is easy:
Use Annotate Pro (www.annoatepro.com)

Can sellect various colours, annoate, highlight and draw pictures.

I love the sound of a handwriting to text. Can something be stolen for PDA's???

Ben :-)

For the colored pens, I know theres software, but I mean actual pens that say "hey, I am blue, draw blue". I got an idea of using bluetooth to tell the computer blue is drawing, then pick up the LED. And for the handwriting, thats my mouse. I need the Bluetooth USB Adapter (Made the pen already, haha). Anyone good with electorinics and know how to program a 6 char hex code into a chip, and send it over bluetooth to a computer? xD That would be sweet.

One way of telling the computer that it is blue is by adding a 2nd button (identifier)

This button sends a signal (morse?) to the computer about the color - so each time you change pen you just press the identifying button aimed to the wiimote

A text can appear much like OSD spelling "BLUE" in a corner of the screen

The electronics required isn't that much...

This might work well, but seems unnecessarily elaborate. How about a button somewhere to pop up a color selection palette, a la Paint, or any of the other drawing programs?

yes it is probably better to have a palette or menu with tools that appears when you click in a corner
