Title: Wiimote AC power adapter?
Post by: fpill on September 19, 2008, 08:04:17 PM
I have seen on this site and others suggesting that you could use the AC adapter battery eliminator to power the wii remote.

Has anyone used this?
Has it been successful?
If not is there another adapter that is better?
I'm looking for an AC/DC converter before I end up with rechargeable batteries and swap them out every couple of days.

Thanks,
fpill

I use a USB version of the same thing, purchased on ebay. It works awesome the USB plug is removable leaving a NiCD battery in the Wiimote. Only problem is I'm expecting the the NiCD will die from constant charging in the near future so will have little power when unplugged.

If anyone is interested I ordered and received this power supply.(AC)

I checked the voltage output with a multimeter and found it was over 4 volts.
I checked it with out a circuit, open voltage.
I also checked it with a 100 ohm resistor in a simple circuit.

I have read that over 3 volts can shorten the life of the wiiremote.
I think I'm going to send mine back.

Any other suggestions?

Here's what I do:

I bought a $5 AC Adapter from BigLots and switched it to 3V.
Then I used some wadded-up tinfoil and some erasers I confiscated from my students to maintain contact between the 9V adapter and the WiiRemote.

I put it up in the ceiling and have left it up there for months at a time, only taking it down when I need it.

I think I'm going to add a resistor to reduce the voltage to about 3V.

When I mess that up I'm going to get the rechargeable battery from Target.

I'll let you know how it works.

I picked up an universal adjustable AC/DC converter with 3v at BigLots for $5.  I added some springs on an eraser and popped it in.  Nice always seeing the batter power around 98% to 103%.

I will post some picture soon.
